How to get to Bozen-Bolzano
Bozen-Bolzano is located in the center of the Alps, next to the main connection between Italy and Central/Northern Europe at the Brenner pass.
The most used airports for travel to Bozen-Bolzano are Milan and Munich, but there are also closer airports in Innsbruck, Verona, and Bologna that may be useful.
From Milan, Verona and Bologna, regional trains are the cheapest transfer option, but there exist also direct bus services by Terravision and AltoAdigeBus.
From Munich, direct international trains leave to Bozen-Bolzano every two hours, while a cheaper option are buses operated by MeinFernBus. A shuttle service by AltoAdigeBus provides more flexible travel times from and to Munich, especially if you need to leave/arrive in the early morning or late evening.
Coming by car, use the Brennero A22 motorway and take the exit Bolzano-Sud if you come from the South (Verona – Trento), and Bolzano-Nord if you come from the North (Munich – Innsbruck).
How to get around
Most places in the city are reachable on foot.
Another good transport medium is bicycle. You can rent a simple bike for 2€ for up to 6 hours or 5€ per day here. More advanced bicycles can be found here.
The city runs a number of bus lines, most of them stopping directly opposite university. Tickets cost 1,50€ for a single ride and 3€ for a day, and can be bought onboard. The province runs also a wide range of regional buses and trains. Tickets for buses can be bought onboard, while tickets for trains need to be purchased in advance at the station.
If you plan several rides on buses or trains, you might consider getting a public transport card (see below).

Public transport cards
Value cards are universal transferable tickets that can be used on all vehicles of the South Tyrol Integrated Public Transportation network (which includes buses and cable cars). The fare is 12 Eurocent per kilometer (each ride inside the city of Bolzano counts as 10 kilometers).
Mobilcards allow you to use all vehicles of the South Tyrol Integrated Public Transportation network for 1, 3, or 7 consecutive days. The Mobilcard is a personal ticket and therefore non-transferable. It must be validated at the beginning of each journey.
Museomobile cards combine the advantages of mobilecards and museum visits in South Tyrol. The card is obtainable as a 7 day or a 3 day card as well as an adult and a children card (aged 6-13).
Bikemobile cards combine the advantages of mobilecards with the possibility of renting a bike. The card is available for 1, 3, or 7 consecutive days.
